Opportunity summary

The Future Leaders in the Americas Programme (PFLA) was established in 2009 by the Government of Canada to support short‑term inbound mobility of students and researchers from Latin America and the Caribbean. Canadian post‑secondary institutions submit projects containing one or more individual scholarships through the Mon ÉduCanada portal. Each project must be signed with Global Affairs Canada and completed no later than 30 September 2027.

Scholarships provide a financial allocation of $8,600 for an undergraduate or master/doctoral semester, and $12,400 for a 5‑to‑6‑month master/doctoral period. An administrative amount of $500 per scholarship is allocated to institutions to cover compliance costs. Tuition fees are not included and must be borne by the students or waived by the institution.

The programme targets students enrolled full‑time at a post‑secondary institution in eligible countries (Caribbean, Central America, Mexico, South America). Applicants must not be Canadian citizens or permanent residents and must not already be receiving other Global Affairs Canada funding. Institutions are responsible for selecting and disbursing funds to the ultimate beneficiaries.

Applications are submitted by Canadian institutions only, via the Mon ÉduCanada portal, accompanied by a confidentiality statement and an Accountability and Management Framework sent by email. The submission deadline was 31 March 2026, and results will be announced in May 2026.
