What is it? Summary of the opportunity
The Excellence Scholarship & Opportunity Programme (ESOP) at ETH Zurich offers a scholarship covering tuition fees and living expenses for the entire master's programme, i.e. CHF 12'000 per semester (CHF 13'500 from the autumn semester 2027). The scholarship is awarded for the normal duration of the master (three or four semesters) and also includes a full tuition waiver.
To be eligible, the applicant must achieve a very good result in the bachelor's degree (top 10 % or grade A), not already be enrolled or hold a master’s degree at ETH Zurich, and be reachable by phone for a possible interview in February. Applications must be submitted between 1 and 30 November 2026.
Applications are submitted via the eApply online portal. In addition to the usual master admission documents, a thesis pre‑project (PDF of 86 KB) must be uploaded and, if the programme does not request references, two professors should be indicated who will send their letters after receiving an email from the system.
For the academic year 2027/28, around 60 ESOP scholarships will be awarded. Decisions are communicated at the end of March by the rector of ETH Zurich, offering winners mentorship and access to the ETH Foundation network.
